Rajaji National Park
Rajaji National Park is one of the most frequented destinations for people living in and around Dehradun. Situated in Uttarakhand, the Rajaji National Park is spread over a wide area of 820.42 square kilometres.
It is named after Late Shri C. Rajagopalachari, also called Rajaji, who was an Indian freedom fighter and the last governor-general of independent India. The national park was not always as large as it is now, and it was not even a national park earlier but only a wildlife sanctuary.
It is situated at the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas and is home to various plants, animals, and bird species.
The beauty, flora & fauna in the national park make it a point of attraction to thousands of people across the country. The Rajaji National Park is also a tiger reserve and is best known for wild elephants that can be found here.
Other animals in the park include leopards, tigers, deers, ghorals, and many more. There are more than 400 bird species, including White-naped Woodpecker, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Northern Goshawk, Greater Scaup, Black-bellied Tern, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Great Hornbill, Black-necked Stork, Scaly Thrush, etc.
